5 Phrases

“Would you look at that!?”
“That’s pretty neat”
“Mitchel, line one”
“Look dude! You have my KID!!!”
“That’s what happens when two things get bound up, and let me tell you, I was SCARED”

The scene opens in a kitchen with a few people around, imagine a very laid back get together. A man and woman are sitting at the counter talking. The man, Drew, doesn’t like babies, and a young couple with a new born enter  the room. The father, Devan, knows Drew doesn’t like babies and brings the baby over to him.

Devan to Drew – Hey man, hold my baby for a second, I need a break.
Drew – No way Devan, you know how I feel about babies, once she starts walking and talking, I will want to play with her.
Devan – Come on! Its not scary, you can handle this!
Drew – I know I can handle it, but I don’t want to handle your kid!
Devan – Okay, okay I will leave it alone.

Seconds later Devan comes back and sets the baby right on Drew’s lap and tries to get him to take her.
Devan – Dude Look! You’ve got my kid!!
Drew cowers back because he really does not want to hold this kid.
Drew – Seriously!? I thought you were going to let this go! Why is everyone so interested in me holding this kid!?
Devan – Why are you so afraid to hold my kid? The worst thing she could do is poop on you!
Drew – Yeah and everyone is really okay with a kid defecating in their lap.
Devan – Its really not that bad. – Spoken in a sarcastic tone as a joke –
The babies mother comes and takes the child with a disapproving look on her face.
Mother – If he doesn’t want to hold the baby he doesn’t have to! Now leave him alone!
Drew – Thank you! Now on with the party!

SJRMC Picture

Here we are shooting the first scene, we have Bill up on the ladder getting a GOPRO shot, and Michael setting up his shot for a good take. We were experimenting with different lighting set ups to get the right feel.

This is my friend Ben, He was in a bad car accident about 10 years ago and still suffers from PTSD. I would do a documentary on him and how he has grown stronger from that event. He also has started his own Not For Profit organization to help people with PTSD from any situation.

This is Mitch, He is a very interesting character. He likes to write, create games, and is a great business man. I would be doing a documentary on a day in his life, basically. He always has a story about something so it would not be hard to make it interesting.

It would also be an option to do a documentary on this not for profit organization and how they work. Basically show how they came to be and where they are now.

Picture Examples, and Camera shot Examples

This is with a "sun" white balance, everything looks more green and the sky looks a lot better.
This is with a "shade" white balance, you can see that the sky is pretty out of good color, and compared to the next picture it looks pretty bad.

Hard Work, or Concentration

When I began thinking about this I knew I had to do something work related because I spend a lot of time at work, and there is a good group of people around. So I decided I would try to show the emotion of hard work. Some people might not think that it is an emotion, to these people I say that you have never worked hard enough to feel this emotion. These pictures are from different construction sites I have been to in the last week before and after school. I work at a Ready-Mix Concrete company called Transit-Mix Concrete, just to give a little background.
I am posting these pictures from work, and as I sit here I started to wonder if these pictures don't show a concentration emotion more than a working emotion. That is something I am going to have to think about!

Would Ya' Look at That!?

My last media idea is one that I think would be pretty funny, and very challenging to produce. It would be narrative, but it would only use certain words. The words are anything close to "look at that." This was inspired by a video that I have seen a few times on Youtube, where this guy is joking with another guy (who was being serious) about his car telling him to look and this and that. The video is pretty funny, and my spin on this would be that two people tell a story by telling each other to look at things, or looking at things, all done with different emphasis. So the only things the actors can say are, "would you look at that, or I'd like to look at it," things like that.

The video could be watched by anyone, it would be clean and entertaining. I would want it to go on the internet, on any social media, and I also think it would do well at a film festival because of how different it would be. It would take a while to get it written the way I would want, but it would be worth it. I think by watching the video, I think, will give you a better perspective of how this video will look.

Media Idea For Sunday

Today I'm thinking I would like to make a short video about being stuck in a room. It comes to me from a game that I used to play that i would find objects in the room to help me get out of the room. This video would come with a twist at the very end, the door just had to be opened a certain way. The movie would be aimed at kids between 15-25, because they may learn to be better problem solvers because of this. It wouldn't necessarily be narrative because the problem is brought into play from the very beginning, and then once the person makes their escape the video would be over. So the whole video would be about this person trying to find a way out of the room.

The video would be short, but thrilling, so I'm sure not to lose the interest of my viewers. It wont be like the saw movies where someone is forcing them to do these things, but they will give the feeling that if they don't get out of the room, something bad will happen. This video will be purely fictional, and I would like for it to end up on the internet, or even at a film festival.

Journey of Life

My most recent idea is to make a movie about the journey of life. It would start with a baby right after birth, because not many people want to watch that at the beginning of a movie. Then it would follow this person throughout their life. I wouldnt do every detail of life, just the major events such as birthdays, first days of school and things like that. It would be a fictional movie, and be narrative. I would want to reach 24-54 year old people because they can relate most to the life journey. I would like it to be funny, but there would also be some drama involved. I think it would be a pretty expensive movie to make so I would have to find funding from maybe a doctor who could use it for medical purposes. It could also be used as an educational tool, maybe in a sex ed class.

I think this movie has a lot of different possibilities, it would have a documentary feel, and I would be documenting life, just more than ones persons life. It could even be based off of the game "Life," the more I
think about it the more ideas I come up with!

Another Commercial Idea

Today I was inspired at work, so I should explain where I work and some of the issues we have been having. I work at a place called Transit-Mix Concrete. We produce most of the concrete that we all walk on around campus, and most of the concrete that holds up Notre Dame Stadium and the surrounding buildings. Our issue is that we recently have been acquired by a rather large concrete company based out of Chicago called Ozinga Redi-Mix. The issue lies in that all of our contractors don't think that it is still a family owned business, and is still run by the very same people as before. The only change is basically money comes out of a different persons pocket. I would make a commercial that shows that we are still held to the same standards as before, and that there are only good things to come from this new owner.

The commercial would be aimed at 24-54 year old people, since they are the only group that usually purchase concrete. I would want the commercial to show that the same people are working for us, even if we had to line up all the drivers, and management and put them all physically on the TV. I would want to have shots on jobs, big and small showing that we are still doing exactly as we have been doing since 1946. I would also want to show that the same guys in the offices are calling the shots. Long story short I want to clearly get across that not a thing has changed for the worse.

It would be a montage style commercial, and have a narrative. I think it would be best to have one of the new owners on screen taking the viewer through all of the things I would want to get across. I would also have him explain who he is, and what Ozinga is all about.

Today's Media Idea

Today I would like to create a commercial, not just any commercial but my dream commercial. My dream job would be to work for Ford Motor Company, and produce their commercials. My idea is one I have had for a while, but never really thought real far into it. The commercial would be for the Mustang, and it would showcase each platform (V6, GT, Boss 302, GT500). The commercial would show that the car has something for everyone, but would be aimed at the 24-54 area because these are the people that would be able to purchase the cars. The commercial would start with the V6 at a grocery store or soccer game, somewhere that shows it can be used for everyday driving. Then it would flash to a GT getting a little crazy, maybe doing a "burnout" (spinning the tires), or something that car guys would find to be fun. Then it would change to a race track setting, where it would showcase the BOSS 302, and the GT500, since that is the only place that these cars can legally meet their full capabilities.

This is a very broad description, for a pitch I would add many different visual aids, some showing real people doing these things, others showing the GT500 on a real race track, in a real race. I would like to think that money wouldn't be one of my bigger issues, since Ford should have a budget for this type of thing. However if I were to need to raise some money I could visit local car clubs and offer to showcase some of their cars in the commercial, or get them show cased in another way. The commercial wouldn't be linear, since it is showcasing traits of a vehicle, not telling a story about it, which would also make it a non narrative. My aim for this commercial would be for it to end up on television. I also think it would be really cool if it got into movie theaters and was shown before a major movie, since those are about the only commercials I ever pay attention to. It could also end up on YouTube, or on the internet anywhere I would think.

My First Media Idea

The first piece of media that comes to my mind is a video game. It would be aimed to adults from 20-54 and would be fictional. It would be narrative, and have a pretty in depth storyline. My idea would be to combine Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Need For Speed, three of my favorite games. Basically it would be a first person shooter type game that you are in a made up city, and can buy any type of vehicle that you want or need. There are all types of groups that you would be able to get into good or bad. The things I would take from Call of Duty are the weapons, the idea of keeping everything looking realistic. From need for speed I would bring the realism of cars, and money, and make sure that the player could modify any vehicle anyway he or she desired. I would want it to be so real that you have to pay attention to how much fuel your vehicle has, and plan stops to get fuel.

I exceed the target audience range a bit because I have a feeling that people around 20 years old will really enjoy this game as well. I believe that that is were most of my revenue will come from. I think that targeting a younger audience will be good because it may give them a better sense of reality, or help them to realize how bad the world could be. I think the game will attract a wide variety of people, because it combines three of the most well known games of all time.

Introducing Chad Montgomery

Hey everyone, I am Chad Montgomery. I am currently in my 4th year at IU South Bend, and my major is New Media with a focus in film. This picture describes me almost perfectly, the only thing missing is my girlfriend giving me a disapproving look! That is my 1994 Mustang GT behind me, with my oldest brother Dan driving it. I love cars, and pretty much anything that goes fast. This car was the first really expensive thing I had purchased mostly on my own, and it is my pride and joy. I also enjoy making videos, my current area of expertise is with cars, because I have the ultimate action camera. In high school I made anything from 30 second montage commercials for local businesses, to a eight minute video to showcase a local elementary school. When we received this assignment I knew immediately that I had to do something that would stand out, instead of some sort of "selfie" because those just aren't me! So to describe myself in one sentence: I am a very tall individual (6'6") that loves cars, making videos, taking pictures, and having a good time!
